Rune Talk: Tiwaz

Rune Talk: Tiwaz (Tyr) Tuesday

Today’s rune is Tiwaz, also one of the 24 runes in the Elder Futhark set, it is the God Tyr’s rune (literally translates to ‘The god, Tyr’) – this rune represents Order, Sacrifice, Decision Making, Justice, and Honesty.

The main aspect of Tiwaz is based on Tyr’s key element – he was the god of law and justice. Although if you are good on your history you will recall that the element of sacrifice in this rune comes from the tale of Tyr putting his hand in Fenris’ mouth so they could bind him – anyway, moving on.

Associations with this rune:Gemstone – Coral

Element – Air

Polarity – Male

Tree – Oak

Plant – Aconite

Tyr’s Rune, in the Old Norse Rune Poem (first in Old Norse, then English):

“Tyr biþ tacna sum, healdeð trywa wel wiþ æþelingas; a biþ on færylde ofer nihta genipu, næfre swiceþ.”

“Tyr is a guiding star; well does it keep faith with princes; it is ever on its course over the mists of night and never fails.”

If you are constantly recieving the Tiwaz Merkstave (Reversed) in your rune readings, it is a sign that your creative flow is blocked and that you are at a stalemate. You may be facing struggles and challenges in the coming months and should be prepared for such problems.

If anybody has anything to add to our info here, please feel free  Hail to the old gods, hail to the aesir, hail to the vanir!- Brought to you by Ravenwolf
